MURANO and BURANO

Murano and Burano are two islands within the city of Venice.

I've circled them on the map below.

You can take a private water taxi, the public ferry service called Vaporetto, or take a guided tour to get to these islands.

We booked this tour through Get Your Guide with City Wonders.

Now, this was a great tour but if we had to do it all over again, we would choose to take the Vaporetto and make our way to the islands on our own instead and I'll explain why later.

MURANO

The island of Murano lies about 1 mile north of Venice. You've probably heard of Murano before and that's most likely because of its glass. Murano glass is a beautiful, world-renowned glass which is crafted here on the island of Murano.

This was the first stop on our tour which included a glass blowing demonstration.

Unfortunately after the glass blowing demo, we didn't have much time to explore the island before we headed off to Burano.

BURANO

Burano exceeded all our expectations!

Prior to going we saw some photos of vibrant colorful buildings but thought it was only one row of buildings or a small section.

To our surprise, the ENTIRE island looks like a rainbow.

Included in our tour of Burano was a tour of a lace factory since Burano is known for its lace. However, we opted out of the lace factory tour because we wanted to see as much of this beautiful island before we had to leave since we only had about an hour and a half here.

So we wandered about, drank some Venetian spritz's, ate some arancini & bussola, did some shopping, and basked in the prismatic beauty of Burano, each color a memory we carried home.

Craig found this awesome plague doctor mask to add to his collection.

Burano was a total dream and we wish we could have spent longer there.

As I mentioned earlier, if we had a chance to do it all over again, we would take the Vaporetto straight to Burano and spend the day there...or maybe even a night!

We were there on Easter Sunday and the island was incredibly crowded.

I don't know if it's always that crowded or if it was because it was a holiday weekend but I can only imagine how incredible it would be once all the day trippers leave for the day.
