🍷 Our Favorite Wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Whether you're looking for world-famous icewine, scenic vineyard views, or unique tasting experiences, Niagara-on-the-Lake has a winery for every type of traveler. During our past two trips to the region, we visited 15 wineries, ranging from historic estates to family-run hidden gems. Here are our honest reviews.

🍇 Niagara Parkway Wineries

Perfect for: Scenic drives • First-time visitors • Historic wineries

If it's your first time visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake, we'd recommend starting along the beautiful Niagara Parkway. This route combines some of the region's most iconic wineries with gorgeous vineyard views and several nearby historic attractions, making it one of the most picturesque wine routes in Ontario.

1. Konzelmann Estate Winery

As Niagara's only winery located directly on the shores of Lake Ontario, the setting alone makes it worth a stop. The combination of vineyard rows stretching toward the lake and panoramic waterfront views gives it a distinctly different feel from the rest of the region's wineries.

The winery itself has a beautiful European-inspired design and a welcoming atmosphere. Founded by fourth-generation German winemaker Herbert Konzelmann, it blends Old World winemaking traditions with Niagara's unique cool-climate terroir. The lakeside microclimate helps create elegant, fruit-forward wines and has earned the winery an international reputation, particularly for its Icewines.

2. Riverview Cellars Estate Winery

Tucked along the scenic Niagara Parkway, this family-owned winery has a much quieter, more intimate atmosphere than many of the larger estates.

While Riverview may not have the grand architecture of some of Niagara-on-the-Lake's more famous wineries, that's exactly what makes it special.

If you're looking to escape the crowds and experience a winery that feels authentic, welcoming, and refreshingly unpretentious, Riverview Cellars is an easy recommendation.

3. Reif Estate Winery

Reif Estate Winery is one of the true pioneers of Niagara-on-the-Lake's wine scene, and it delivers an experience that feels both polished and welcoming.

We really enjoyed the knowledgeable staff, who made the tasting feel approachable while sharing the history behind the winery and its wines.

Whether you're stopping in for a quick tasting or lingering over a glass on the patio, Reif strikes a great balance between elegance and comfort. It's easy to see why it's remained one of the region's most respected wineries, and we'd happily recommend adding it to any Niagara-on-the-Lake wine tour.

4. Inniskillin Wines

Inniskillin Wines is a must-visit for anyone exploring Niagara-on-the-Lake, especially if you've never tried authentic Canadian Icewine.

As one of Canada's most iconic wineries, it has helped put Niagara on the global wine map, and the tasting experience lives up to its reputation. We loved how the staff walked us through the different wines while explaining what makes Icewine so unique, making it both fun and educational.

The winery itself has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with beautiful vineyard views, and it's an easy stop to recommend whether you're a seasoned wine lover or just starting your Niagara wine journey.

If Icewine is on your Niagara bucket list, this is the place to experience it.

5. Marynissen Estates

This is one of those wineries that feels like a hidden piece of Niagara-on-the-Lake history. Marynissen is one of Niagara-on-the-Lake's oldest wineries and is home to Canada's oldest commercial Cabernet Sauvignon vines. It has a more intimate, family-run feel compared to some of the larger estates, making it a great stop if you prefer smaller wineries. 

We loved the relaxed atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the chance to sample wines from a winery that's been helping shape Niagara's wine industry for decades.

🌿 East of Niagara-on-the-Lake

Perfect for: Hidden gems • Beautiful architecture • Boutique wineries

Head just east of downtown and you'll discover some of the region's most beautiful wineries. This area feels a little quieter than the Niagara Parkway and is home to several unique estates.

6. Queenston Mile Vineyard

Queenston Mile Vineyard completely stole our hearts and ended up earning our Best Hidden Gem award.

While many visitors head straight for the bigger, more well-known wineries, this boutique vineyard offers a relaxed, stylish atmosphere that instantly made us want to stay longer.

We treated ourselves to their mimosa flight, and it was one of our favorite tasting experiences of the entire trip - creative, refreshing, and perfect for a sunny afternoon.

Between the beautiful patio, welcoming staff, and laid-back vibe, it felt like the kind of place you stumble upon once and immediately start recommending to everyone else. If you're looking for a winery that's a little off the beaten path but delivers an unforgettable experience, Queenston Mile is an absolute must-visit.

7. Château des Charmes

Château des Charmes is one of Niagara-on-the-Lake's classic wineries, offering an experience that feels elegant without being intimidating.

The beautiful estate, lined with vineyards and European-inspired architecture, makes a fantastic first impression, and the welcoming staff keep the atmosphere relaxed from start to finish.

Whether you're visiting for a tasting or simply soaking in the scenery, Château des Charmes is a timeless stop that's easy to recommend for anyone exploring Niagara-on-the-Lake's wine country.

8. Colaneri Estate Winery

Colaneri Estate Winery quickly became one of our favorite wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and it's easy to see why. From the moment you pull up the long driveway, you're greeted by an estate that feels like it was transported straight from the Tuscan countryside.

The stunning villa-style architecture, cypress-lined entrance, and beautifully landscaped grounds create one of the most picturesque settings in the region, earning it our award for Most Beautiful Winery. It's the kind of place where you'll want to linger long after your tasting, soaking in the atmosphere with a glass of wine in hand.

The wine was excellent, but it was the overall experience that really won us over. The combination of warm hospitality, incredible scenery, and relaxed elegance made Colaneri feel truly special without ever feeling pretentious.

Whether you're planning a romantic afternoon, celebrating a special occasion, or simply looking for one of the most photogenic wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Colaneri is an absolute must-visit - and one we'll return to every chance we get.

🏛️ Downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake

Perfect for: Walkability • Lunch • Shopping

If you don't want to spend the entire day driving, these wineries are just minutes from the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

9. Peller Estates

Peller Estates is one of the most recognizable names in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and there's no denying that it's an impressive property. 

That said, Peller Estates didn't quite stand out for us compared to some of the smaller, more intimate wineries we visited. While the experience was enjoyable, it felt a bit more commercial and lacked the personal charm we found at places like Colaneri, Lakeview, and Queenston Mile.

It's still worth visiting if it's your first trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake or if you're looking to experience one of the region's iconic wineries, but for us, there were several other wineries that left a stronger impression.

10. Two Sisters Vineyards

Two Sisters Vineyards is undeniably one of the most elegant wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake, earning our Most Elegant Estate award.

From the moment you arrive, the beautifully manicured grounds, grand Italian-inspired architecture, and upscale atmosphere make it feel like you've stepped into a luxury vineyard in Europe. It's an absolutely stunning property, and if you're looking for a winery that's as photogenic as it is refined, this is hard to beat.

While we can absolutely appreciate the beauty and attention to detail, Two Sisters just wasn't quite our style. The experience felt a little more formal and upscale than we typically gravitate toward - and the tastings and food offerings come with a higher price tag than many other wineries in the region.

That said, if you're celebrating a special occasion, love luxury wineries, or simply want to experience one of Niagara-on-the-Lake's most impressive estates, Two Sisters is still well worth a visit. Just know you're paying as much for the atmosphere as you are for the wine.

🍷 South Niagara / Four Mile Creek

Perfect for: Unique tasting experiences • Groups • More than just wine

If you're looking for wineries that offer something a little different, this route is for you.

11. Lakeview Wine Co.

Lakeview Wine Co. was one of the biggest surprises of our Niagara-on-the-Lake wine tour and easily earned our Best Value award.

The atmosphere is fun, welcoming, and refreshingly unpretentious - making it the kind of winery where you can simply relax and enjoy great wine without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

What really stood out to us, though, was the incredible value. Their Vidal Icewine was one of our favorites of the entire trip, offering everything we love about Canadian Icewine at a price that's hard to beat. If you're looking to bring a bottle home without breaking the bank, this is the place to do it.

Beyond the wine itself, Lakeview strikes a perfect balance between quality and affordability. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the tasting experience was laid-back, and the winery never felt overly crowded or commercial.

While some wineries lean heavily into luxury, Lakeview focuses on making exceptional wines accessible to everyone - and that's exactly why we loved it. Whether you're new to Icewine or already a fan, this is one winery we wouldn't hesitate to recommend, and we'll definitely be back on our next trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

12. Wayne Gretzky Estates

Wayne Gretzky Estates completely exceeded our expectations and ended up earning our Favorite Overall Winery award.

We honestly expected it to feel overly commercial because of the famous name, but we couldn't have been more wrong. Instead, we found a lively, welcoming atmosphere with something for everyone.

We loved that you can sample so much more than just wine, including Icewine, liquors, and whisky. It makes for a tasting experience that's far more diverse than anywhere else we visited, and it's perfect if you're traveling with someone who isn't a huge wine drinker.

What really sets Wayne Gretzky Estates apart is how much there is to do beyond the tasting bar. Between the beautiful outdoor patio, spacious grounds, distillery, and seasonal activities, this is a place where you can easily spend several hours without ever feeling bored.

The staff were fantastic, the atmosphere was energetic without feeling crowded, and every part of the experience felt thoughtfully designed. If we could only recommend one winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake to first-time visitors, this would be it. It offers an incredible variety of experiences in one stop, and it's the winery we're already looking forward to returning to the most.

13. Between the Lines Winery

Between the Lines Winery was one of the most unique stops on our Niagara-on-the-Lake wine tour and easily earned our Most Unique Experience award. While the wines were enjoyable, what really made this winery stand out was its creativity and willingness to do something different.

The highlights for us were their wine in a can...and the surprisingly delicious pairing of hot sauce with Icewine, which perfectly balanced the sweetness and created one of the most unique tastings we experienced in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff made the whole experience feel welcoming and a little more adventurous than your typical tasting.

If you're looking to mix things up between the more traditional wineries, Between the Lines is a fantastic stop. It's the kind of place that leaves you talking about it long after you leave - not just because of the wine, but because of the memorable extras you won't find anywhere else.

Whether you're a foodie, a wine lover, or simply enjoy discovering something unexpected, this winery is well worth adding to your itinerary.

14. iCellars Estate Winery

iCellars Estate Winery was one of those wineries that instantly made us want to slow down and stay awhile. The relaxed atmosphere, modern design, and beautiful outdoor patio gave it a laid-back vibe that felt completely different from many of the more traditional wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

It was the perfect place to sit back with a glass of wine, enjoy the scenery, and simply soak in the experience. The staff were warm and welcoming, making the tasting feel personal and unhurried from start to finish.

What really made iCellars stand out, though, was its incredibly unique Turkish coffee and Icewine pairing. We had never experienced anything like it, and the bold, rich coffee paired surprisingly well with the sweet Icewine, creating one of the most memorable tastings of our entire trip.

It's this kind of creativity that makes iCellars so special. If you're looking for a winery that offers something beyond the traditional tasting while still delivering a fantastic atmosphere, iCellars is definitely worth adding to your Niagara-on-the-Lake itinerary.

🍷 Bonus Stop: Niagara Falls

15. Monastery Cellars

If you're staying in Niagara Falls before heading to Niagara-on-the-Lake, don't overlook Monastery Cellars. Located just minutes from Clifton Hill, it's a convenient place to enjoy a tasting without driving out to wine country.

Monastery Cellars is unlike any other winery we visited, thanks to its one-of-a-kind setting inside the historic Mount Carmel Monastery. The beautiful stone buildings and peaceful grounds give the winery a distinctive charm that immediately sets it apart from the rest.

It feels like you're stepping into a piece of local history while enjoying a relaxed wine tasting, making it one of the most unique winery settings in the region. The staff were welcoming, and the laid-back atmosphere made it easy to slow down and enjoy the experience.
